Are you using the type of foundation that’s best for your skin type? The following is information about the various kinds of foundation and the skin types they’re best suited for:
- Liquid foundation is suitable for all skin types. This type of base is more versatile than the others, providing sheer to full coverage.
- Tinted moisturizer is a sheer foundation that’s ideal for people with normal to dry skin.
- Cream-to-powder foundation is best for use on normal to mildly oily skin. The coverage it provides is heavier than liquid foundation but less than sticks and creams.
- Cream and stick foundation is for normal to dry skin types. This medium-to-full coverage provides a finish that’s natural looking.
- Mineral powder is versatile in that it can provide a medium to full foundation; it’s best for medium to oily skin types. Use a make-up primer for optimal results, and be sure to let the primer dry before applying the powder.
If you’re using concealer, apply it before putting on your foundation. Don’t get too heavy with the concealer as it contains grease and tends to crease.
Whichever type of foundation you use, apply it to five places on your face: chin, both cheeks, the nose, and the forehead.
You can apply liquid foundation with your fingers, a sponge, or a foundation brush.
Sponge application should always run from the center of your face outwards so that the foundation fills the pores and doesn’t smear. For the nose and around the mouth and eyes, it’s best to use the edge of the sponge.
Don’t apply too much foundation around the mouth and eyes where makeup can crease.
If you’ve chosen the right shade of foundation and you apply it carefully, you’re all set with a perfect canvas on which to apply the final touches on your lips, cheeks, and eyes. Be sure to check out Part 1 of this two-part series on how to achieve a flawless foundation
